The Annapurna Marathon is a challenging
trail race held annually in the Annapurna
region of the Himalayas of Nepal

The race covers an accurately measured distance of 42.195 kilometres (26.2 miles), starting at the famous Annapurna Base camp at 4,130 metres above sea level (13,550 feet). It descends, with some uphill sections, to the finish at Ghandruk at 2,012 metres above seal level (6,560 feet).

The race starts at the altitude of 4,130 m (13,550 feet) above sea level at the famous Annapurna Base Camp. The route passes through Fishtail Base Camp, several traditional villages and lush forests before reaching the finish line at the mountain village of Ghandruk at 2,000 metres (6,560 feet) above sea level, nestled in the shadow of the great Annapurna mountain range.

Athletes will have to deal with a variety of terrains, including steep ascents and descents, rocky paths, and shallow river crossings.

Due to the high altitude and rugged terrain, the Annapurna Marathon is considered to be one of the most challenging trail races in the world. The event attracts runners from around the globe who are seeking a unique and unforgettable running experience.

The race is always held on June 3rd to commemorate the date in 1950 of the very first summit ascent of an 8,000 metre high mountain - made when French climbers led by Maurice Herzog summited Annapurna 1 (8,091 metres, 26,545 feet high).
